Clover under cabbage reduces harvest — rye mulch keeps yields

Clover under your cabbage sounds like a perfect organic win — soil cover, free nitrogen, fewer weeds. A new temperate-climate field trial says pause before planting: clover living mulch reduced cabbage and celeriac yields by about 17–25%, while row beds with dead rye mulch kept yields on a par with bare soil.
